NHL: Kessel seals Toronto win

Phil Kessel's late goal saw the Toronto Maple Leafs keep their play-off bid on track with a 2-1 win over the New York Islanders.

Clarke MacArthur had opened the scoring for Toronto while Matt Moulson levelled for New York.

Maple Leafs goalie James Reimer produced a brave display as he remained on the ice despite suffering with bouts of nausea.

Rick Nash grabbed a double to help the Columbus Blue Jackets beat the Nashville Predators 4-0 while the Minnesota Wild beat the Edmonton Oilers 4-1.

Nick Palmieri scored the only goal to help the New Jersey Devils beat the Dallas Stars while captain Shane Doan struck in overtime to give the Phoenix Coyotes a 3-2 win over the Philadelphia Flyers, their eighth-consecutive victory.

The Boston Bruins beat the Calgary Flames 3-1 and Erik Johnson came back to haunt former side the St Louis Blues as he scored the winning goal for the Colorado Avalanche in a 4-3 win a mere three days after being traded.

Devin Setoguchi scored twice for the San Jose Sharks in a 4-3 win over the Detroit Red Wings and Wojtek Wolski got a late equaliser and then the only goal of the shootout as the New York Rangers defeated the Carolina Hurricanes by the same margin.

The day's other game saw the Montreal Canadiens defeat the Vancouver Canucks 3-2.
