Australia call up Ferguson for ODIs

Australia have called Callum Ferguson into their squad for the remaining two matches of the ODIs series against England.

Ferguson will join the team ahead of Wednesday's game in Sydney as batting cover for Shaun Marsh who is likely to be ruled out due to the hamstring injury he suffered in Sunday's 51-run win in Brisbane.

Marsh is still set to undergo scans on the injury which he suffered while batting and which prevented him from taking the field at the Gabba as Australia sealed the seven-match series 4-1.

It comes as a blow to Marsh's hopes of playing in the World Cup, after he had been earmarked as the likely replacement for fellow Western Australia Mike Hussey who is in doubt for the tournament after needing hamstring surgery earlier this month.

Ferguson, who averages 46.07 in 26 one-day internationals, will therefore get his chance to press his claims.

"Callum has an excellent record in one-day internationals for Australia and is in good form this season," chief Australia selector Andrew Hilditch said.

"We are sure Callum will seize the opportunity that comes following the unfortunate hamstring injury suffered by Shaun Marsh."
